2016-17 Carla J. Nigro Spirit Award goes to Jessica Williar

Seth Piro, recipient of last year's Carla J. Nigro Spirit Award, was on hand to present the award to Jessica. Seth was accompanied by his daughter.  Jessica Williar , school psychologist, Avoca, is the recipient of the 2016-17 Carla J. Nigro Spirit Award. Jessica was nominated by Stephanie Dredge (school psychologist, Missouri Valley).       Jessica was nominated for her true passion and commitment in ensuring all students are treated with respect and dignity. "Jessica’s 'when you know better, do better' and 'kids will do well if they can' attitude embodies how she does her daily work," Stephanie said. "She is one of the most approachable people I have ever met and she is always taking the opportunity to help someone else’s job be just a little bit easier."      Carla was a school psychologist with AEA 13. Regional Autism Clinic of Iowa is the first of its kind

Lori Morrell, Michelle Hicks, Melanie VanDyke and Nancy Boswell of the Creston RAC-I team.  The GHAEA Autism Resource Team (ART), Child Health Specialty Clinics (CHSC) and the University of Iowa are teaming up to bring early diagnosis to rural Iowa. The Regional Autism Clinic of Iowa (RAC-I) is a collaborative effort between Iowa’s education and medical communities and is the first of its kind!        Rather than traveling to Omaha, Iowa City or Des Moines, parents can now bring their child to the CHSC closest to them including locations and satellites in Council Bluffs, Creston, Leon, and in the future, Shenandoah.       This project started two years ago, aimed at getting members of the GHAEA Autism Resource Team trained in the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale-Second Edition (ADOS-2).
