Why does your vote count?
Unless you've been hiding under a rock, tomorrow, Nov. 8, is voting day! Why is it important to vote? Here are two important events in U.S. history that were decided by just a few votes:
- 1. Richard Nixon, not John F. Kennedy, would have become President in 1960 if one person from each polling place had voted differently.
- 2. Texas might not have become part of the United States in 1845 if one U.S. Senator had voted differently. The vote in the U.S. Senate was 27-25 to invite Texas to become a state. If it had been a tie, Texas would not have been asked to become part of the Union.
- So there you have it. One person can make all the difference. Do your part as a citizen of the United States of America and get out and vote!
Now have some fun and see how well you know our U.S. Presidents!
